Mercy Church was a dream birthed in the heart of founding pastor Timmy Gibson, a Kansas City native, shortly before graduating Bible college in 1994. It would be several years before the dream was realized, as Timmy and his wife, Jana, spent eight years serving in various ministry capacities from Oklahoma to Alabama to Texas. Finally, in November 2002, they made their way to Kansas City, and felt their hearts drawn to the Olathe area as the launching place for Mercy Church.

Mercy Church officially opened its doors on Sunday, January 5, 2003, with 64 people in attendance at Indian Trail Junior High School. A year later, the church moved next door to Olathe SouthHigh School and continued to meet there until January of 2010.  During this time, the church grew to 300, seeing many lives changed as their eyes were opened to the generosity of God's unconditional love. Mercy Church became a truly inter-denominational church, integrating and uniting people of all church backgrounds under the banner of Christ.

Late in 2009, Pastor Timmy and the staff felt a stirring in their hearts to do something drastic...change the location of Mercy Church. After much discussion, research, and prayer, they decided this was in fact the voice of God, and the hunt began to find a new home for Mercy Church. The search concluded right in the heart of Kansas City, at Indian Hills Middle School in Prairie Village.

Mercy Church continues to thrive in fulfilling its vision “to lead people to a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ.” It has become known as a place where everyone is welcome, where hope is found and felt, where laughter is common and friendships are forged. Who would've thought that a school building could serve as a church? Truth is, the church is not a building...it is people. Mercy Church is people. People loving God and loving each other as we journey together. That's who we are, and that's why we're here. We would love for you to join our story.
